Why invest in water
2.5 percent of the world’s water supply is freshwater. Consumption has more than tripled in the last 70 years. According to the UN and UNICEF, 2.4 billion people are without access to clean drinking water, and 800 million people have too little water for hygiene and cleaning. The problem will get worse due to population growth and climate change. Experts predict annual consumption will increase from 4,300 cubic kilometres by 2050 to 5,500 cubic kilometres, and it will be increasingly challenging to gain access to clean drinking water. Companies in the water supply, treatment and
management sectors can develop solutions here and are likely to benefit in the long term. In addition, most of them work sustainably and meet high social and environmental standards.
