Investors and fund managers can look back on a success story. When they were launched in 2007, the Swisscanto water fund and the Swisscanto climate fund were among the first funds dedicated to a specific sustainable theme. Since then, fund managers Jonas Knüsel and Dr Gerhard Wagner have been using a proprietary sustainable purpose/quality approach to invest globally in equities of companies that provide important solutions and thereby also earn good money. They buy shares in companies that enable intelligent use of the scarce, valuable resource of water and provide technologies to tackle climate change.
By purchasing fund units, investors here make a very personal contribution to achieving selected UN Sustainable Development Goals: clean water and sanitation as well as affordable and clean energy plus climate protection measures. Both funds have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years for their targeted orientation. What's more, the focus on sustainable themes has paid off in the form of good returns. Returns so good, in fact, that fund rating agencies have given both funds numerous awards.
